Watchmaker's bench in the Horolium workshop

Kuala Lumpur Workshop

Each watch receives
the time it is owed.

Horolium is a small repair atelier on Jalan Tun Sambanthan. We work through mechanical and quartz movements with care — one piece at a time, under loupe, at the bench.

What We Do

Services at the Bench

Three distinct services, each handled in-house. Work is described plainly, and a brief condition note is returned with every piece.

Why Horolium

The Workshop Difference

Condition Notes Returned

Every piece comes back with a written description of what was found and what was attended to — no vague summaries, no assumptions left unstated.

Work Done In-House

No outsourcing to third-party workshops. Each movement is handled by the same technician from intake to return, preserving continuity of care.

Calibre-Specific Methods

Lubrication quantities, timing targets, and cleaning sequences are referenced to each calibre's service documentation — not approximated.

Gaskets Assessed on Every Opening

Water-resistance depends on the condition of seals, not just the case design. We check and replace where needed, and reseal to the original pressure class.

Vintage Pieces Accepted

Older mechanical movements are welcome when parts remain available. We approach vintage work with patience and will advise honestly if a piece falls outside our scope.

Kuala Lumpur Workshop

We are based at Jalan Tun Sambanthan and can be visited directly. Drop-off and collection by appointment keeps the pace steady and your watch accounted for.

Common Questions

Before You Send a Watch In

How do I know if my mechanical watch needs a service?

The most reliable indicator is how the watch keeps time. A mechanical movement in reasonable health should hold within a few seconds per day under normal wear. If yours has begun to run notably fast or slow, stops intermittently, or has not been opened in five or more years, a bench service is worth considering. We are happy to take a preliminary look and advise without obligation.

How long does a mechanical service usually take?

Most mechanical services are completed within three to five weeks. This allows time for a thorough disassembly, cleaning, assessment, parts sourcing if needed, reassembly, and a period of timing observation on the vibrograph. Quartz battery and module work is generally completed within one week. Refinishing timelines depend on the extent of work, and are discussed at intake.

Do you work on vintage watches?

Yes, with some qualification. Many vintage calibres remain serviceable when parts can still be sourced or where worn components can be replaced from existing stock. Before committing to service, we examine the movement and discuss what is possible and at what cost. If a piece falls outside what we can responsibly attend to, we will say so clearly.

What does the service price include?

The RM 1,650 mechanical service price covers full disassembly, multi-stage cleaning, pivot and jewel assessment, calibre-correct lubrication, reassembly, positional timing, case clean, and gasket renewal where appropriate. It does not include replacement parts beyond standard gaskets — if worn pivots, mainsprings, or other components need sourcing, these are quoted separately and agreed before any work proceeds.

Can I drop off my watch at the workshop?

Yes. We accept drop-offs and collections by appointment at our Jalan Tun Sambanthan workshop. Please contact us to arrange a time before visiting — this keeps the intake process unhurried and ensures a technician is available to receive the piece properly. Walk-ins are possible but not always convenient.

How should I send a watch if I am not local to KL?

We recommend sending via a tracked, insured courier service at a declared value appropriate to the piece. Wrap the watch in bubble wrap inside a rigid box, and include a short note with your name, contact number, and a brief description of what you have observed. Once received, we will contact you to confirm intake and discuss the service before proceeding.

What is included in the condition note?

The condition note is a short written record describing what was found on the movement, what was attended to, and what — if anything — was left for a future service or falls outside the current scope. It is not a certificate, but it is an honest account of the work done and the state of the piece at the time of service.
